How to test APM access policy locally?
Very new to BIG-IP. I have downloaded the BIG-IP VE and imported it into VirtualBox. Followed the basic configuration mentioned here https://f5.bravais.com/s/vf4XckakhbTbCRUwa2sb I created an APM access policy to use AD. But is there any way to test it? Some internal URL which simulates the real world behavior? As I am on VBox, any virtual server I create, is directly accessible from local. How do I get BIG-IP into the picture?452Views0likes2CommentsThroughput per virtual server
Hi! Not quite sure if my question fits this forum, but I'm trying anyway :) I'm trying to measure performance through our LTMs. Is there any way to get throughput numbers per virtual server? The default graph in the dashboard gives a good indication of the total traffic, but it would be nice to be able to drill down to a specific vip. Is it perhaps possible to query with snmp? /Niklas1.7KViews0likes11CommentsWhich Tools for Testing ?
Hi all Whilst reading through some of the profiles on an LTM, I thought to myself I've never really tested a lot of this stuff. For example, the Fast HTTP profile claims to be faster that a standard HTTP profile, however, at this moment in time I am simply just taking F5's word for much of this. Clearly this isn't the best way to learn. Can anyone recommend any free or low cost tools I can use for different test scenarios & further my understanding of the myriad of profiles? These could include: Sending large amounts of traffic through the LTM, for example to simulating a DoS attack. Generating traffic from a large variety of source IP address. Measuring throughput, delay etc. Bear in mind this is all to be done on a home PC which I understand limits my options. I'm sure there exists many enterprise-level tool to do the same thing, and cost a lot more! Thank you.Solved572Views0likes3CommentsPerformance of an external datagroup versus a local datagroup?
Hi, Is there any expected difference in performance of a ~10k list of networks/hosts if the datagroup is defined in an external file versus locally, directly in the bigip.conf? This is for 9.4.8 if it matters. I'm guessing that the lookup will be handled the same once the datagroup is loaded in memory regardless if whether it's coming from an external file versus the bigip.conf. But I figure I'd ask. I'll also try testing to see if I notice any difference in the timings for the two different datagroups. Thanks, Aaron210Views0likes2CommentsiRule test & analysis tool
I'm looking for an iRule analyzer that would allow testing simple traffic scenarios independent of configuring a BIG-IP device. The user would specify values for system variables such as [HTTP:uri] and [HTTP:cookie] and the analyzer would output rewrite url and name of pool routed to , or redirect url , etc. Also would be nice if the tool would also analyzed the iRule for optimum code and performance load testing547Views0likes2CommentsBIG-IP : simplest way to ensure request is made on new tcp connection
F5 BIG-IP Virtual Edition v11.4.1 (Build 635.0) LTM on ESXi When testing from client browser or shell ( curl ) , what is simplest way to ensure a request initiates a new tcp connection with the virtual-server ( is not sent on any pre-existing connection ) ? I want to ensure my tests are on a fresh connection and irule stack processing starts fresh.396Views0likes4Comments6400 Capacity
We are looking to get the most life out of our 6400's. In trending CPU usage using tmstat we see CPU around 55% - 60% during the business day. We have plans to go to v10 but I wanted to know what a good top level benchmark is for CPU on the 6400 runing v9.x? I know it can use 100% but at what CPU level do you start seeing performance issue? Knowing this will help in planning discussions and hopefully move the upgrade to v10 along quicker.218Views0likes1CommentWhat Happens If 6400 Pushed Beyond Its Capacity?
Hi All. I have a 6400 HA pair running 10.2.0 LTM and very recently added ASM with seven ASM policies. Total CPU use varies between ~65% and 100% after enabling ASM. Several of our websites that have ASM policies will experience a 20x increase in traffic later this year. ASM was not part of the picture last season when we experienced the expected spike in traffic to these websites. I am not certain if the 6400 will be able to handle the load with ASM turned on now. What occurs when a dual CPU system running LTM and ASM runs out of CPU? I presume LTM side of things will be alright because my understanding is that TMM grabs one whole CPU when it starts up. I would expect CPU resources for ASM to be the issue point. What is the behaviour one would expect to see with an ASM enabled website in a condition where the BigIP is pushed to 100% CPU use? Does traffic slow down because of ASM processing or does ASM drop some traffic/connections or is ASM possibly rendered ineffective but LTM traffic is not affected? As you might imagine, I am working on building the case for replacing these 6400s with new equipment. I am trying to establish the urgency and what-if scenarios of deciding to leave it as-is vs replacement. Thanks!206Views0likes2Commentswhat is the best way to test BigIP performance under load
Hello all, can some one point me to a good article/manual explainng the best way to test the BigIP perfomance under load. if any one can explain me the metrics and how they are affected that would be very helpful thanks in advance v185Views0likes1CommentAny questions? Post'em
