What to tell web developers
I have not seen a group to post this subject so I will start here: I am being give an opportunity to tell our web developers how they must write code to work in a wide area load balanced environment. We have had issues in the past where the "create user" web page would get load balanced to two different websites during the creation process so it would have the same user in two different active directory controllers. When AD tried to replicate, it failed and shut down services from AD. Ugly situation, but ... what else have you seen that might be helpful in telling them what not to do in their code? I have started with my sales guys, and Professional services - they say something to the effect "we just make it work through the F5", but given an opportunity such as this, I could prevent alot of issues (and that is what MGMT is expecting to occur) Thank You,
IPv6
As many of you are aware, IPv6 module has been available on BIG-IP LTM since 9/2004 when v9 was first released. With OMB-set deadline looming just about a year away to implement IPv6 for public sites, we are seeing more customers inquiring about our IPv6 capability. With v9 code, IPv6 must be purchased as an optional module (enabled with a license key). However, if your hardware is compatible with v10, then IPv6 module will come included in the v10 upgrade. Hello all, Welcome to the DevCentral US-Federal User Group forum. We're off to a slow start, but that's okay. Federal F5'ers face a lot of challenges that the rest of the commercial community rarely sees: Federal mandates, security restrictions, authentication challenges, PKI and smartcards, and many more. So we need to stick together. The purpose of this specific forum is to discuss those challenges. A lot of the members so far are your friendly Federal engineering team, and we're here to talk about local and global traffic management, acceleration, security, iRules, iControls, and virtualization. Keep in mind of course the following things: 1. Some challenges are better left to the DevCentral community at large. You'll get faster feedback and from a much larger audience. If your questions aren't specifically Federal-related, consider posting to the main forums - but please keep us in the loop! 2. Membership in this forum isn't vetted to Federal workers, so be conscious about what you say. It's a roadside cafe off a busy highway. Come in, relax, take a load off, but remember operational security. A few tips: generalize your questions and don't discuss who you work for.
