Solution Required

We would like to find a solution for our client. Please find the attached file. We have two sites Primary and DR. We are using F5 12250v load balancer on primary and F5 virtual load balancer on DR site. Users connect to Primary and DR site using Cisco AnyConnect VPN and connect to local application crs.abc.go.tz which is resolved against two VIP 10.1.66.205 and 192.168.3.205 defined on LB on both primary and secondary.

Now our problem is we need to automatic failover for application crs.abc.go.tz. If one VIP goes down the DNS still send the request to the down VIP e.g. 10.1.66.205 and user request fail. Secondly we need a solution in case if both primary servers and data link between primary and secondary site goes down, the user request should goes to secondary site.

Please help me.

  • Hi Uzair,

Do you have configured this domain on some GSLB device like GTM or cisco GSS ? because as per your requirement you need some sort of a dns loadbalancing.

Also why do you need to send user request to a vip when it goes down ? ideally request should always go to a healthy vip.

    Thanks, Pankaj

  • Hi Pankaj,

Thank you for the reply. Our client want that all user traffic for crs.abc.go.tz should come to Primary load balancer. In our local DNS we have two entries for crs.abc.go.tz i.e. 10.1.66.205 (primary LB VIP) and 192.168.3.205 (secondary LB VIP).

So when user hit crs.abc.go.tz the request also go to the secondary load balancer VIP (192.168.3.205) due to DNS default behavior and client does not want that. We need a solution for that. We are using Microsoft DNS in our environment.

    Please help.

      Hi Uzair,

Unfortunately this cant be achieved using LTM, for this you need to have a GTM device.

      Thanks, Pankaj
