New 3900 Install reports 95%+ Memory Utilization?

Hi All, I've just set up two LTm 3900s and under the performance tab it shows that they are using 95% or memory? These are brand new, no configuration have been set on them beisdes their management IPs. Is there anythjing I can check to see why ?

This is what top shows.

PID user rr ni virt res shr s %cpu%mem time command

Thank you for your help!

  • what software version are you running? i think memory used in performance graph is in GB, isn't it?

    to get information about memory, you can try "b memory" or "tmsh show sys memory" command.
  • Wow tmsh show sys mem states 7.8G available and 7.2G used? OS used memory is 7.2G average 7.6G?

    I'm not sure why i havent even began to configure the ltm...

  • i understand that is allocated memory.

  • i understand tmm is using 363.1M from 6.2G and host is using 1G from 2.6G (7.8G - 6.2G).
  • I just don't know why it is reporting on the dashboard, and thru SNMP that it's memory utilization is over 95%

    It's not really an issue, normal. If you look at your stats it shows 7.8 GB of physical RAM and 6.2 of that is allocated for TMM's use.

    From Linux's point of view the whole 6.2 GB allocated and in use by TMM. TMM does its own memory management and shows it is really only using 363MB.

    Since TMM is using 6.2GB of the 7.8, that leaves about 1.6GB for Linux and other processes that go into managing the F5 to use.
  • I see, however our SNMP collector is reporting it at 99% used, is there a different OID I can go after as I don't want to disable the monitoring of memory completely, because I would be nice to know if and when the F5 is running hot.

    Cheers!

      Hi Jim, did you get any OID's? It would be better to have OID for monitoring TMM memory utilization alone rather than HOST memory?
  • These should help;
