Oct 23, 2007Response Chunking
I have been reading on the four Response Chunking settings of an http profile, and I have an understanding of what each does. But what is not clear to me, is what are the advantages and disadvantages of each.
More importantly, I am missing a clear understanding of how to determine which would be best for a given application.
Any help here?

Hi,
It's my understanding that you shouldn't have to change from the default of Preserve unless you're modifying the size of the HTTP data. For example, in older BIG-IP versions, when you use a stream profile or iRule to modify the content, you had to instruct BIG-IP to recalculate the Content-Length header value. This was noted in CR53771 and I think it's been fixed in 9.4.0 or later (not certain about this though). Likewise, if you are using compression, you'd want to selectively unchunk the response from the server so the content can be accumulated and compressed.
There is a bit more info on the settings in relation to compression in SOL5379 (Click here) and the stream profile in SOL6422 (Click here).
Does this answer your question? Are you seeing an issue that you think might be due to the response chunking setting?
Does anyone else have input?
Aaron
