Jun 16, 2011Redundant Config
I have a pair of being used as active/standby.
My problem is I have a self-IP per unit and we are only using the internal VLAN.
Also Mgmt IP is set per unit. (different network address)
I have the mgmt IP listed under the "Peer Mgmt IP" under Network Failover (and its enabled).
The switch port was disable but the unit never failed over to standby.
Set a floating IP between the units but active still will not failover when I disable the port 1.1
Please help!

Hi ,
When you try to fail over the box to the other one by disabling the Network connection but you still have the failover console cable connected it will not fail over. So if you want to test the fail-over first remove the fail-over console cable and then try this by switching off the Active unit.
With your current configuration the two boxes are synced? The Active/standby configuration is done properly? the active box and the stand by box shows their proper status? If all the configuration is fine and the two boxes are properly synced only then the fail over will work. It will be better if you can share the configuration that you have done or u want to do.Regards,

what's interface 1.1?
if u'd like to failover when vlan is down, u need vlan failsafe.

btw, pls make sure ha vlan is never down since both units will go active. - Techgeeeg

You still did not mention about the fail-over console cable. Also for the network fail-over connect the ports directly through a small patch cord and reply what is happening to your setup. - Minn_62043

If you manually fail over, will it be successful? You can use "b fo standby" command or do it from the admin ui.
You can also check the output from the logs /var/log/ltm from both units to see the status of the link up/down and failover switching.
And what is port 1.1? - cxcal_18687

Port 1.1 is the internal VLAN, and it the only port in use on this unit at the moment. - hoolio

As Moo suggested, can you fail over manually using 'b fo standby' or by forcing the active unit to standby in the GUI?
Also, I wouldn't suggest setting a redundancy preference as this can lead to an additional, unnecessary fail over when the preferred active unit fails, the peer becomes active and then the preferred active unit comes back online.

Since the units are remote, I found out the serial cable is plugged in.
Had someone disconnect it. I will test network failover again over the weekend. - nitass

if u need to failover when 1.1 is down, i understand u've to configure vlan failsafe or ha group. it will work with serial failover too.

As the failover console cable is disconnected I believe it will work now..... cheers... do update us....
