Moving LTM VE from old to new Hosts

I have Prod & Dev high availability pairs of virtual F5's running of very old servers.  Looking for best way to transition from Hyper-V (2016) to VMware (vSphere 8) via V2V migration.

Any suggestions or past experiences welcome.

  • create ve in vmware then use f5 config backup and restore procedure.

you will need to do revoke license to reuse the license in new vmware ve.
the procedure needs to be done including in the origin ve
so make the the old hv ve management still works when new vmware ve is up.

  • Are you wanting to know how to migrate the LTM VMs or how to migrate from one hypervisor OS to the other. In either of these situations this seems like more of a hypervisor migration question rather than a LTM specific migration. Now to upgrade the LTMs code version you will most likely have to step through a few upgrades rather than upgrading directly. If the VMs are so old that you aren't running on the new partitions you should just create new LTM VMs and then use the UCS file to restore to the new VMs using the ignore license and platform flags.
