Monitor problem

Hi,

I'm using two Big IP in the following scenario for HTTP service :

-> -> ->

The Big IP_2 monitors http service on port 7000 and when the service is unavailable the VIP2 is down. The Big IP_1 monitors the VIP2 and when the VIP2 is down I observed strange behaviour. I can ping from the Big IP_1 the VIP2 address and I can telnet to VIP2. The monitor on the Big IP_1 towards VIP2 doesn't discover the VIP2 is down. I'm using the typical iRule which makes redirection between the pools. When I remove http profile from VIP2 I cannot telnet to this port as long as the VIP2 is unavailable. But the ping is still active.

Would you be so kind to explain the behaviour ? How to set the right monitor via iRule or Big IP configuration to get the real state from VIP2 when is not active ? Why does the http profile causes the connection is opened towards the VIP2 when the VIP2 is down ?

Thanks in advance,

rob
