Aug 08, 2007iRules / iControl to Monitor Nodes
We currently have 780 web sites residing on 5 web servers. We are looking for a solution to monitoring the nodes with out having each node do an individual check. Something like a main monitor where the nodes are up or down as a result of one check and not a check for each node. iControl or iRules might help if someone has any ideas please post.
Thanks -
Jeffrey

Does each virtual site have its own IP or something? Trying to understand why that doesn't equate to only 5 nodes and a whole lotta pool members.
Regardless, it seems like you should be able to accomplish what you need with a carefully crafted monitor, without the need for iRules or iControl. Have you experimented with this? Point it to a specific IP, apply that monitor to multiple nodes, and turn off monitoring by ICMP for each virtual address. Just a thought... doubt you want to modify 3400 nodes individually, if those are in fact nodes and not just pool members, but hopefully it'll help move the thought process. heh
