Converting ASM policies to AWAF

Hi! I’m upgrading my F5 VE to v17 with a license that covers AWAF but not ASM. After activating the license, I get a provisional error due to the unlicensed ASM module. I tried converting my ASM security policies to AWAF using a JSON file but got stuck.

I tried to turn off the ASM module and turn on the AWAF one, but I don't see the AWAF module here. How it looks now for me you can see in the attachments. I see AWAF in the optional modules but can't activate it anyhow

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • AWAF is the new name for the old ASM module. In the Provisioning menu, you'll still need to have ASM enabled in order to use the AWAF capabilities.

I haven't performed very many major software upgrades on ASM, but I recall that I didn't have many issues with the ASM policies. The upgrade process should be able to verify the configuration and import it again.

One thing you might try, is to export the policies in .bin format before upgrading, and then try to import them again from the .bin file. I do think that there might be some version control in place that might prevent this action, however.

I see that you mentioned attachments, but I cannot find them. Do you mind sharing them again so that we have a better idea?

    Regards
