Can do do a search and replace in a payload before returning the data to the browser?

Has anyone tried to do a search and replace in a page before returning it to the client? with have a 3rd Party app that we run as a https site however it is full of http://blahblahs links in it, from our point of view(networks) that's not an issue as we just forward the traffic over back to the https virtual server.

 

 

The users however are concern about the 'There are insecure items in the page, do you wish to load them' error they recieve when loading the page, Is it possible to look through the page and change all http://blahblah to https://blahblah ? before it hits the clients web browser ?
